正面描述 Bare radiate head of Divus Augustus facing left, rendered in the idealized portrait style characteristic of Julio-Claudian and Flavian commemorative coinage. The radiate crown, symbolizing the deified status of the emperor, is rendered with short pointed rays emanating from the fillet. The portrait is executed in moderate relief with the legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. A dotted border frames the design.

附加信息

This as belongs to a posthumous restoration series issued by Titus in 80–81 AD, honouring his deified father Vespasian. The RESTITVIT legend identifies it as part of a deliberate program in which Titus restruck — or issued in the style of — earlier Julio-Claudian and Flavian types, a gesture of dynastic legitimacy at a politically charged moment: Titus had only just survived the eruption of Vesuvius and a devastating fire in Rome within his first two years of sole rule.

RIC II.1 465 places this piece firmly within that restoration coinage. The series is not rare in isolation, but attributing individual examples to original versus restored strikes requires close attention to style and fabric.
