The altar rests upon a two- or three-stepped base, conveying architectural solidity. The senatorial authorization mark S C appears prominently in the lower field, divided on either side of the altar's base. The encircling legend, partially visible around the upper and left periphery, records Nerva's restitution of this Augustan type. This reverse type closely follows the original Augustan altar as, underscoring the restitution coinage's deliberate archaizing intent. |
