The circular Greek legend ΤΙΒΕΡΙΟΣ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ runs around the periphery, identifying the emperor by name and title. The regnal year ΙΗ (year 18, corresponding to 31-32 AD) appears in the lower field beneath the bust. The portrait is rendered in a refined Alexandrian style, combining Roman imperial iconography with local artistic conventions. |

The legend ΘΕΟΣ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ ('the Divine Augustus') surrounds the portrait, proclaiming his posthumous deification. The bust is rendered in a vigorous Alexandrian style, with short, neatly combed hair beneath the radiate crown. This reverse type was used on Alexandrian tetradrachms to honour Augustus as a cult figure, reflecting the strong imperial cult practised in Roman Egypt. |
