| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The effigy displays the youthful features characteristic of Caracalla's early Alexandrian portraiture. The circumferential Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡΗΛ ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ around the bust, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered provincial Egyptian tetradrachms of this period. |
