| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered in the three-quarter rear perspective characteristic of certain provincial issues, with the emperor's beard and curling hair finely rendered in the Hellenistic tradition. The paludamentum is visible over the left shoulder, and the muscled cuirass is depicted in detail at the truncation. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the obverse field in a continuous circular inscription. The portrait displays the hallmark physiognomy of Hadrian with his characteristic full beard and wavy hair, reflecting the Hellenized artistic conventions of the Pontic mint. |
