| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valerian II as Caesar facing right, seen from the front, with youthful features rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Greek characters, reading Π ΛΙΚ ΚΟΡ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΚΑΙϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the young prince as Publius Licinius Cornelius Valerianus Caesar Augustus. The flan is somewhat irregular, characteristic of Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production of this period. |
