| Beschrijving keerzijde | Hermanubis, the syncretic Graeco-Egyptian deity combining Hermes and Anubis, depicted standing to the right, wearing a kalathos (basket crown) upon his head. The figure holds a winged caduceus in one hand and a palm-leaf in the other, emblems of both divine messenger and victor. A jackal, sacred to Anubis, is shown behind the standing figure. The regnal year legend L - Ε (Year 5) is placed in the field, flanking the central type, dating the issue to the fifth regnal year of Philip I (247–248 AD). The reverse composition reflects the characteristic blending of Roman imperial and Egyptian religious iconography found on Alexandrian coinage. |
