| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip II facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, as is characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachm portraiture of this period. The emperor's youthful features are rendered in low relief, with the laurel wreath clearly visible encircling the head. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust in the field, reading Α Κ Μ ΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ Ε(Υ)(Ϲ), identifying the subject as Caesar Marcus Julius Philippus Eusebes. The flan is irregular, typical of hammered billon issues of the Alexandrian mint. |
