| Obverse description | Draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, laureate, depicted in three-quarter view from the front with distinct portraiture characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage. The imperial effigy shows the emperor in military dress with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The encircling Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹ(Ε), identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The coin's fabric is characteristic of the Alexandrian mint, with a slightly irregular flan and bold, if somewhat provincial, engraving style. |
