The effigy displays the emperor's characteristic full beard and mature facial features rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The circumferential Greek legend reads ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟ(Ϲ) ϹΕΒ ΕΥϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor by name with the titles Sebastos (Augustus) and Eusebes (Pius). The die work is typical of the Alexandrian mint, with a somewhat broad, flat flan and irregular planchet edges. |
