The encircling Greek legend reads Π ΛΙΚ ΚΟΡ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΚΑΙϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the prince as P(ublius) Licinius Cornelius Valerianus Caesar Augustus. The flan is slightly irregular, as is characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachms of the mid-third century. |

To the lower left appears the regnal date symbol L (year), and to the upper right the Greek numeral Δ (4), together reading year 4 of the joint reign, corresponding to 256–257 AD. The field is otherwise plain. |
