The effigy is framed by a beaded inner border, with a partial Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading D II IVSTINIANAVS DP AVC. The execution reflects the crude yet vigorous die-cutting characteristic of Germanic bracteate imitations of Byzantine solidi from the Justinianic period. |
