The encircling Latin legend reads IMP C M AVR VAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG, running clockwise around the bust within a beaded border. |

Jupiter holds a long sceptre in his left hand, and an eagle stands at his feet on the left. The scene symbolises divine protection and legitimation of imperial authority. The legend IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG encircles the field, with the mint mark TR in the field and XXI• (or variants) in the exergue, within a beaded border. |
