| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, rendered in the robust military style characteristic of the Tetrarchic period. The radiate crown, composed of pointed rays, identifies this denomination as an antoninianus. The emperor's beard is closely cropped and the facial features are depicted with the square-jawed, forceful expressionism typical of late third-century Roman portraiture. The cuirass is visible at the shoulder, and the paludamentum is fastened at the right shoulder. A Latin imperial legend runs around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border. |

| Reverse description | Jupiter, the king of the Roman gods, stands facing left in the field, nude but for a chlamys draped over his left shoulder and falling behind him. He holds an eagle-tipped sceptre or long staff upright in his right hand and a thunderbolt in his lowered left hand. The figure is rendered in the idealized classical tradition, with a beaded border encircling the design. The reverse legend IOVI AVGG is distributed around the field, invoking Jupiter as the divine patron of the two reigning Augusti, reflecting Diocletian's ideological programme associating himself and Maximian with Jupiter and Hercules respectively. A mint mark appears in the exergue. |
