The obverse legend encircles the effigy along the periphery of the flan, reading IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG. The portrait conveys the military authority of the emperor, with the radiate crown — hallmark of the antoninianus denomination — clearly prominent above the head. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of late third-century billon coinage from the eastern mints. |
