| Obverse description | Radiate and cuirassed bust of Diocletian facing right, depicted with a short beard and draped paludamentum over the cuirass, rendered in the stern, stylised late Roman Imperial manner characteristic of the Tetrarchic period. The obverse legend encircles the effigy along the periphery of the flan, reading IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG. The portrait conveys the military authority of the emperor, with the radiate crown — hallmark of the antoninianus denomination — clearly prominent above the head. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of late third-century billon coinage from the eastern mints. |
