The central device is enclosed within double pearled circles, between which the Latin legend is disposed around the full circumference of the flan. The overall style is characteristic of Low Countries hammered gold coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. |

A Latin legend in uncial lettering encircles the device between the rim and the ship, identifying the issuer and denomination. |
