Reverse description A bipennis (double-headed axe, or labrys) is depicted in the center of the field, shown frontally with a short handle and symmetrical blades splayed to either side. The Greek legend AMATOKO is arranged around the central device, with individual letters distributed in the field to the upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right of the axe. The lettering is rendered in archaic Greek characters consistent with Thracian epigraphy of the fourth century BC. The design is bold and schematic, typical of Odrysian bronze coinage struck under Amadocus II.
