Attuda was a minor Phrygian city of limited political weight, but its civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader scramble among Asia Minor municipalities to demonstrate loyalty following the civil wars of 193 AD — the Year of the Five Emperors. The magistrate name partially preserved in the ΕΠΙ legend would have been a local strategos or grammateus, responsible for financing the issue, often at personal expense.
At 45.87 g and 47 mm, this is a medallion-scale civic bronze, almost certainly struck for ceremonial distribution rather than everyday exchange.
