Three helmeted Corybantes dance energetically around her, each brandishing a raised shield and striking it with a sword in the ritual noise-making gesture intended to conceal the infant god's cries. Flanking the central scene, two reclining river gods are depicted on either side, each leaning upon a water urn from which streams flow, and holding a reed. An additional uncertain recumbent figure appears in the background, adding depth to this elaborate mythological composition set within a beaded border. |
