| Beschrijving keerzijde | An ambitious multi-register cosmic composition, all contained within a surrounding Zodiac circle. In the upper register, Helios and Selene each drive a quadriga, facing one another across the field. In the central register, Zeus is enthroned facing, holding a globe in his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left, with an eagle standing at his feet to the left, head turned back. In the lower exergual register, two river gods recline facing one another, each holding a cornucopiae and a reed, likely personifying the Rhyndacus and Macestus rivers associated with the Cyzicene territory. The elaborate design reflects the prestige of Cyzicus as a twice-neocorate city. |
