To the right, Septimius Severus, shown togate in his civic role, stands facing left holding a sceptre; to the left, Caracalla, rendered in military dress, stands facing right also holding a sceptre, flanking and venerating the goddess. The composition emphasises the imperial family's devotion to Ephesian Artemis and the city's prestigious neocorate status, with the reverse legend distributed across the field. |
