Reverse description The cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands facing in the centre, depicted in the canonical frontal hieratic pose with two lateral supports (stags or pillars), symbolising her role as the great goddess of Ephesus. To the right, Septimius Severus, shown togate in his civic role, stands facing left holding a sceptre; to the left, Caracalla, rendered in military dress, stands facing right also holding a sceptre, flanking and venerating the goddess. The composition emphasises the imperial family's devotion to Ephesian Artemis and the city's prestigious neocorate status, with the reverse legend distributed across the field.
