| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, with the radiate crown clearly rendered atop the imperial effigy. The paludamentum is visible over the cuirass, conveying military authority. The Greek imperial titulature runs in legend around the periphery of the flan. The style is characteristic of provincial bronze coinage struck in the Lydian conventus under the Severan tradition. |

The composition reflects the prominent cult of Cybele in the Lydian region, where the goddess enjoyed particular veneration. The ethnic legend ΤΡΙΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ encircles the field, identifying the issuing city of Tripolis. The overall die work is consistent with the provincial bronze coinage of Asia Minor under Gordian III. |
