| Reverse description | Two togate figures, identified as the co-emperors Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, standing facing one another in the centre of the field and clasping right hands (dextrarum iunctio), symbolising concordia and the joint rule of the Antonine dynasty. The civic ethnic legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ is inscribed around the field, attributing the issue to the city of Magnesia ad Maeandrum. The composition is a common civic type affirming dynastic harmony on provincial bronzes of the period. The figures are rendered in the formal, frontal style characteristic of Ionian provincial die engraving under the Antonines. |
