| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus Acraeus enthroned to the left, draped and partially nude, holding in his extended right hand a small cult statue of Artemis Ephesia shown standing frontally, wearing the kalathos headdress and adorned with her characteristic supports, while his left hand rests upon a tall sceptre. The type reflects the close cultic relationship between Zeus and the great Artemision of Ephesus. The reverse legend encircles the scene, proclaiming the city's prestigious title as first of Asia. The composition is typical of large-format Ephesian civic bronzes issued under the Severan dynasty. |
