The type reflects the close cultic relationship between Zeus and the great Artemision of Ephesus. The reverse legend encircles the scene, proclaiming the city's prestigious title as first of Asia. The composition is typical of large-format Ephesian civic bronzes issued under the Severan dynasty. |
