The palm tree, a recurring emblem on Ephesian civic coinage, rises prominently in the field. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the city's title as first of Asia and invokes Nike by name. The overall execution reflects the ambitious large-module civic bronze issues struck under Elagabalus at the Ephesus mint. |
