The pairing of Asclepius and Hermes is characteristic of Pergamene civic coinage, reflecting the city's renowned association with the cult of Asclepius. The reverse legend encircling the field records the name of the local magistrate (strategos) and affirms Pergamum's prestigious status as first city and thrice neocorate. |
