Magnesia ad Sipylum, positioned in the Hermus valley beneath Mount Sipylus, held enough regional weight within the Smyrna conventus that its civic bronze consistently named the sitting Roman governor — the strategus — as issuing authority, a formula that tied local prestige directly to the imperial administrative hierarchy.
