Magnesia ad Sipylum, positioned in the Hermus valley beneath Mount Sipylus, held enough regional weight within the Smyrna conventus that its civic bronze consistently named the sitting Roman governor — the strategus — as issuing authority, a formula that tied local prestige directly to the imperial administrative hierarchy. The magistrate named Aurelius Gaios recorded here is otherwise poorly documented, which places dating this issue squarely within the long span of Caracalla's reign rather than any narrower window.
