| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus enthroned to the right, holding a long sceptre in his left hand; Nike, winged and advancing to the left, crowns Tyche, who stands to the left wearing a kalathos (modius) on her head and holding a cornucopia in one arm and a rudder in the other. The composition reflects the civic pride of Antioch ad Maeandrum and its devotion to Capitoline Zeus, a common theme in Asia Minor coinage of the Severan era. The reverse legend naming Zeus Capitolinus identifies the principal deity of the local cult. The scene is rendered with the bold, somewhat summary style characteristic of Carian provincial bronzes. |
