At right, Dionysus stands facing left, extending a cantharus over a panther crouching at his feet, while his left arm, bearing a thyrsus, rests upon a column. The composition reflects the syncretic religious character of the Myrinaean civic coinage under the Severan dynasty. The reverse legend in Greek identifies the issuing magistrate and the civic ethnic. |
