The portrait displays the characteristic full beard and thick curling hair of Lucius Verus rendered in the Antonine style. The Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan. She rests her right hand upon a large ship's rudder, symbolising Alexandria's preeminence as a maritime and commercial centre. The figure is rendered in a semi-recumbent pose with drapery falling over the couch, occupying the majority of the field. The regnal date legend L Γ (Year 3) appears in the upper field. |
