Bagis was a small Lydian city whose civic coinage under Gallienus frequently advertised Homonoia — formal interstate concord — with neighboring communities. The pairing with Temenothyrae recorded in this coin's legend reflects a documented alliance between the two cities, likely reinforced during the administrative turbulence of Gallienus's sole reign, when the eastern provinces were simultaneously managing the aftermath of Valerian's capture by Shapur I in 260 and the breakaway Palmyrene sphere of influence pressing westward.
