Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Commodus, with long beard, draped in paludamentum and cuirass, facing right, depicted from a three-quarter rear perspective. The obverse legend reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡ ΚΟΜΜΟΔΟϹ, distributed around the periphery of the field. The portrait reflects the mature iconographic style associated with Commodus's later reign, emphasising his muscular, heroic character. The rendering of the cuirass and military cloak is consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Smyrnaean mint during this period.
