| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two Nemeses standing facing one another, each plucking at her chiton at the breast in the characteristic gesture of the goddess; the figure to the left holds a cubit rule, the figure to the right holds a bridle. Between them, Asclepius stands frontally, his body turned slightly, holding his serpent-entwined staff (caduceus). The composition celebrates the Homonoia (concord) between Smyrna and Pergamon, both cities being prominent cult centres of Nemesis and Asclepius respectively. The multi-line Greek legend in the field and around the periphery names the cities, the occasion, and the presiding strategos Geminus. |
