| 裏面の説明 | Heracles performing the eighth Labour — the capture of the Mares of Diomedes. Heracles strides vigorously to the right, the Nemean lion skin draped around his neck, his raised right hand wielding his club while his left hand grasps a prancing horse by the bridle. In the lower field behind him lies a fallen horse together with the prostrate body of Diomedes, the Thracian king whose flesh was fed to the mares. The regnal year date L Ϛ (Year 6) appears in the field. The composition is energetic and characteristic of the mythological reverse types favoured by the Alexandrian mint under Antoninus Pius. |
