At his feet to the left lies the forepart of a recumbent hump-backed bull. The scene references the civic cult of Themistocles, who according to ancient tradition was honoured with heroic rites at Magnesia. The reverse legend names the local magistrate Dioskourides Gratos and identifies the city as the Metropolis of the Magnesians. |
