A dotted border frames the reverse design, and the overall composition is typical of Alexandrian civic coinage of the Trajanic period. |

Year 19 of Trajan's reign corresponds to 115–116 AD, when the emperor was prosecuting his Parthian campaign and had pushed Roman territorial control to its furthest eastern extent, briefly reaching the Persian Gulf. Alexandria's mint continued issuing dated bronzes by regnal year throughout his reign — the L ΙΘ date formula is the Egyptian Greek convention, with L functioning as an abbreviation for "year."
