The portrait typology is consistent with provincial coinage of the Ephesian conventus struck under his reign. |

| Description du revers | The emperor Septimius Severus depicted as an equestrian warrior, mounted on a horse galloping to the right, with his right arm raised and thrusting a spear downward toward a bound captive fallen beneath the horse's hooves. The composition conveys imperial military triumph and is a well-known type on provincial bronzes of the Severan period. The Greek legend is distributed around the field, naming the local magistrate Hermogenes and recording his double tenure as stephanephoros and first strategos. The reverse type and magistrate inscription are characteristic of civic bronze coinage from Hypaepa in Lydia. |
