Alexandria's mint shifted administrative authority in year one of Marcus Aurelius's reign, as the co-emperorship with Lucius Verus required the Egyptian provincial coinage to acknowledge both rulers simultaneously — a logistical and political adjustment the Alexandrian engravers handled with notable speed given the abruptness of Antoninus Pius's death in March 161. The "L Α" regnal year notation confirms this as among the earliest Alexandrian bronzes of his reign.
