| Obverse description | Draped and cuirassed laureate bust of Marcus Aurelius, seen from the rear, facing right, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The obverse legend is disposed around the bust in Greek characters, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The portrait reflects the characteristic Antonine style of Alexandrian coinage, with confident engraving of the imperial regalia. |

Alexandria's mint shifted administrative authority in year one of Marcus Aurelius's reign, as the co-emperorship with Lucius Verus required the Egyptian provincial coinage to acknowledge both rulers simultaneously — a logistical and political adjustment the Alexandrian engravers handled with notable speed given the abruptness of Antoninus Pius's death in March 161. The "L Α" regnal year notation confirms this as among the earliest Alexandrian bronzes of his reign.
