| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, with the imperial effigy rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style typical of the Severan period. The laureate wreath is visible atop the head, and the neck truncation is apparent at the base of the portrait. The encircling Greek legend occupies the obverse field, naming the emperor with his full titulature. The die work, while worn, retains the characteristic portraiture of Caracalla as seen on Alexandrian tetradrachms and bronze issues of regnal year 22. |

Year 22 of Caracalla's reign in Egypt — ΛΚΒ on the reverse — places this coin precisely in 213–214 AD, a moment when Caracalla was consolidating power following his murder of Geta in late 211. The Alexandrian mint maintained an extraordinarily granular dating system through regnal years, making Egyptian bronzes among the most precisely datable provincials in the entire Roman series. Caracalla's edict of 212, the Constitutio Antoniniana, extended Roman citizenship to virtually all free inhabitants of the empire, Egypt included — though Alexandrians had held a peculiar intermediate status for decades prior.
