| Reverse description | Nilus, the divine personification of the Nile River, reclines to the left in a languid pose characteristic of Alexandrian coinage. He holds a cornucopia from which emerges a small Genius figure holding a wreath, and grasps a reed in his other hand; a crocodile, emblematic of the Nile, is depicted beside him. The regnal year date ΙϚ (year 13, corresponding to 149–150 CE) appears in the upper field, rendered in Greek numerals. This reverse type is a canonical motif of Alexandrian provincial coinage under Antoninus Pius, celebrating the fertility and abundance associated with the annual Nile inundation. |
