Synnada, a Phrygian city best known in antiquity for its marble quarries — the *marmor Synnadicum* prized by Roman emperors for luxury construction — struck this provincial bronze during the two-year reign of Trajan Decius, the first emperor to die in battle against a foreign enemy. His campaign against the Goths at Abrittus in 251 ended in catastrophe, and coin production under his name at provincial mints like Synnada halted abruptly with his death, leaving the entire series compressed into an unusually narrow window.
