The emperor's bearded portrait is rendered in the mature provincial style characteristic of Phrygian civic coinage of the Severan era. A circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy within a dotted border, reading ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΜ ΡΩΜ ΑΦΡΙ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor with his full titulature. The coin exhibits a brownish-olive patina with traces of green corrosion, and bears a small hole at the centre of the portrait, likely the result of secondary use as a pendant or weight. |
