| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus Laodiceus, the principal civic deity of Laodicea ad Lycum, stands to the right holding an eagle in his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. He faces the renowned cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus, depicted frontally in the rigid xoanon tradition, wearing a kalathos (cylindrical crown) and adorned with the characteristic supports flanking her sides, with two stags positioned at her feet. This homonoia (concordia) type celebrates the formal alliance between Laodicea ad Lycum and Ephesus, with the reverse legend recording the civic association and the year ΠΗ (88) of the local Sullan era. The scene is rendered with careful attention to the iconographic specificity of both deities, reflecting the prestige of this inter-city commemorative issue. |
