| Opis rewersu | A large calathus (sacred wicker basket) occupies the central field, from which a serpent rears upward to the right, a motif associated with Dionysiac and chthonic cult symbolism prominent at Sardes. The basket is flanked by a poppy head to one side and ears of grain to the other, emphasizing the city's fertile and religious character. A multi-line Greek inscription in the lower field and a circular legend around the periphery identify the magistrate and the city's neocorate status. The composition is characteristic of Sardian civic bronze issues of the Severan and post-Severan periods. |
