| Beschrijving keerzijde | Heracles, nude and wearing the Nemean lion-skin over his head and shoulders, stands facing right and forcefully grasps the right horn of the Cretan bull with his right hand, subduing the beast in a dynamic wrestling pose. The bull strains rightward, its forelegs raised, conveying vigorous movement. A club or the lion-skin drapes over Heracles' left arm in the field. The scene alludes to the seventh labour of Heracles and underscores the mythological heritage of Heraclea Pontica, the city founded under his patronage. The reverse legend in Greek is partially distributed around the upper field and in the exergue. |
